Durham Institute for Computational Cosmology Models Early Galaxy Formation on COSMA-8 Supercomputer

Astrophysicists at Durham University's world-renowned Institute for Computational Cosmology (ICC) have published landmark findings in Nature Astronomy utilizing the DiRAC COSMA-8 supercomputing cluster.

The 'Cosmic Dawn' simulation models the gravitational interactions of trillions of dark matter particles and baryonic gas filaments, matching recent deep-field observations from the James Webb Space Telescope with unprecedented accuracy.

"Understanding the physics of the early universe requires fusing deep observational data with massive numerical simulations," explained Lead Author Dr. Carlos Frenk. "Durham continues to lead global cosmology research from our Ogden Centre laboratories."
